Positron Emission Tomography (PET) is a field of Nuclear
Medicine. A Nuclear Medicine Technician operates the equipment. The
patient is given a miniscule intravenous injection of radioactive tracer
compounds. The scanner measures the concentration of gamma radiation resulting from the collision of a positron with its antiparticle, an electron from the tissue. |
