Positron Emission Tomography (PET) is a field of Nuclear Medicine. A Nuclear Medicine Technician operates the equipment. The patient is given a miniscule intravenous injection of radioactive tracer compounds.
The scanner measures the concentration of gamma radiation resulting from the collision of a positron with its antiparticle, an electron from the tissue.

Schools and Costs


PET is included in the Nuclear Medicine Program at Bellevue Community College. The 12-months certification program costs $1,000 per quarter in tuition.
